Learning English without learning about Shakespeare and his works means missing out on a rich vocabulary resource, cultural heritage and a lot of fun and excitement. Although students and teachers find Shakespeare intriguing, they are often intimidated by the apparent difficulty of the themes and language. In these two webinars dedicated to Shakespeare in the English language classroom, we will show you how to engage with the Bard’s language in your B1 and B1+ classrooms, focusing on three classics: Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet and Macbeth.

Webinar 1: “This above all: to thine own self  be true” – the relevance of Shakespeare in the modern world
In the first webinar, we will talk about the multiple benefits of working with Shakespeare’ plays, focusing on the Bard’s universal appeal and exploring the universal themes of love, revenge and ambition, while showing you how you can work with the original text in the classroom.

Webinar 2: Shakespeare – from Reading to Performing
In the second webinar, we focus on bringing key scenes to life through performance. Shakespeare’s texts were written to be performed, which make them a valuable resource for the language classroom. We will concentrate on the different aspects of a production and get readers thinking about drama techniques, staging a scene and script writing and editing.
